My husband and I have been together for almost 5 years now with our 3rd wedding anniversary coming up in December. Sounds short right? But let me tell you, those years are jammed pack. All love stories are unique and I love hearing them. My parents met through a newspaper classified in the 80’s and are still going strong 33 years later. My grandparents – going on 60 years! That is a lot of time and a lot of love. I am hoping to continue that streak with Nick and we work hard every day to build that legacy. It’s no wonder I put myself in the wedding industry! I wanted to give a short glimpse into Nick and my beginnings, why we decided to elope first then have a wedding, and what’s next.
We Met on a Dating App
Yup! You read right! Dating apps are getting more and more popular and what’s even better is we met on Tinder. I had just bought my first home and had a week off so I figured – why not go on a couple dates to pass the time? Nick was also new to the area (from a neighboring town) and really wanted to get out of his normal dating rut. Not sure why either of us thought Tinder would be the one to do that but it did. We met on a Monday in March at the Cheesecake Factory and later Nick would call me a Monday Night date – as in, if it wasn’t going well he always had the “I gotta get up for work excuse”. Luckily, it went well and we ended up at a local karaoke spot and I watched him sing and DANCE to “Bye, Bye Bye”. In a month’s time he was living with me and we were head over heels.
Fast forward a couple of months and all that fun led to a positive pregnancy test. My mind went in a million directions but Nick was steadfast and we decided together that we were going to do this thang.
In October, we found out we were having a boy! Landon Chase. I knew a proposal was coming I just didn’t know when. Cut to November – Nick surprised me with a proposal in our house with my family there. I thought they were there to paint the baby’s room so, yeah it was a surprise! We planned on having an actual ceremony and reception but with the baby coming and our financials on the lower side, we woke up one day in December and decided to elope.
I called an officiant I worked frequently with and had him meet us by the lake next to our home. We both wore jeans and sweaters and said “I do” right there where we were building our lives. December 23, 2017. Eloping isn’t for everyone but I loved it. It was so special that he and I got to spend that moment together just the two of us.
Landon was born in March 2018 and our lives really got crazy! Selling and buying a new house, new jobs, new baby… sheesh! The wedding was put off until September 2019. Although I loved our elopement, I am so glad we had a ceremony and reception too. It was the perfect way to celebrate this life we were building with our closest friends and family and BONUS! Landon got to be there too. I wouldn’t trade a thing. Three years later, here we are – in our forever home and still going strong.
What’s Next?
I mean who really knows, but currently, we are working on two home based businesses. Nick has a thriving insurance brokerage – check him out at www.canonadvisersnorthga.com! I am working on growing this dream as well as some smaller projects.
We have goals to travel and upgrade the house but for now we are just living and learning in Lavonia, GA. Doing everything we can to soak up time with Landon and each other!
